Soledad Miranda

Here are a synopsis, pictures, and video from Cervantes. For more details about this movie, click here. Unfortunately, the version of the movie I have is edited and does not contain some scenes pictured in the stills. (In fact, many of Soledad's scenes were cut, because Gina Lollobrigida had her almost totally removed from the film out of jealousy!) If you have the full movie or any pictures from this movie that I don't have, please contact me!

This epic adventure chronicles the early life of Miguel de Cervantes, Spain's great 16th-century writer. Young Cervantes takes a prestigious job as secretary to a Cardinal. In Rome, he falls in love with a woman who turns out to be a prostitute. He decides to join the army in the fight against the Turks and Islam and takes part in a dangerous sea battle. He is wounded but becomes a hero. However, he is later captured by Turkish pirates and becomes a slave to Hassan Bey. Cervantes leads an uprising of the slaves, and is finally released when his family pays the ransom.

This clip features some of Soledad's scenes from Cervantes. Soledad plays Nessa, the kind slave who nurses Cervantes back to health after he is beaten. She falls in love with him, but is shot with an arrow in the uprising and dies in his arms. (Her lines are dubbed; this is not her voice.) Click here for the Spanish language version of her scenes with her real voice. This movie can be ordered in the store.
